Monnieres

Monnières is a small village in the Loire-Atlantique department, around twenty kilometres south-east of Nantes, at the heart of the Nantes vineyard region. It lies within the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, well known for its dry white wines made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape. The surrounding landscape features gently rolling vineyards, country lanes and small woodlands, ideal for walking or cycling, particularly along the nearby Sèvre Nantaise river. The village retains a typically rural character shaped by the wine trade, with a handful of local shops and a parish church. Several nearby wine estates offer cellar visits and tastings, a popular activity for wine enthusiasts keen to learn about the distinctive qualities of Muscadet. The proximity of Clisson, a historic town noted for its Italian-inspired architecture and medieval castle, along with Vallet, another lively wine-producing village, makes it easy to build a stay centred around exploring the Nantes vineyards. The area's temperate oceanic climate brings mild summers, well suited to outdoor activities and to discovering local produce throughout the year.
