Buffon

Buffon is a small village in the Côte-d'Or department, close to Montbard, set in an area crossed by the River Armançon and the Burgundy Canal. The village owes its renown to the Grande Forge de Buffon, an 18th-century industrial complex founded by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon, the noted naturalist and local landowner. This listed historic monument reflects the region's past ironworking activity and can be partly visited today. The village retains a peaceful, rural character typical of this part of Burgundy, surrounded by hedgerows, woodland and valleys well suited to walking and hiking. The nearby Burgundy Canal offers pleasant walks or cycle rides along its banks, along with the chance to see the traditional locks that mark this historic waterway.
