Pouilly en auxois

Pouilly-en-Auxois is a small town in the Côte-d'Or department, in Burgundy, set within the regional nature park of the Morvan. It owes part of its reputation to the Canal de Bourgogne, which runs through the town and passes through the well-known Pouilly-en-Auxois tunnel, over 3 kilometres long, allowing boats to cross the watershed between the Seine and the Rhône. This crossing point draws canal boating enthusiasts and those enjoying walks along the towpath. The village retains a typically rural Auxois character, with its church and limestone houses. The surrounding countryside features rolling hills, woodland and hedgerowed fields, ideal for walking and cycling, particularly along the routes linking neighbouring villages. Pouilly-en-Auxois also serves as a convenient base for exploring other Burgundian sites such as Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, or for visiting the vineyards of the Côte de Beaune slightly further south. The climate is continental, with mild summers and cool winters typical of inland Burgundy.
