Sombernon

Sombernon is a village in the Côte-d'Or department of Burgundy, set on the plateau between Dijon and Semur-en-Auxois, around twenty kilometres north-west of Dijon. A former crossroads settlement dating back to Roman times, it retains traces of its past, including the remains of a feudal castle and its parish church. The surrounding natural landscape is one of the area's main draws: the limestone cliffs nearby, particularly those in the local combe, are popular with climbers and walkers alike. The forests encircling Sombernon also provide an ideal setting for countryside walks and for discovering Burgundy's rural scenery. The village lies close to regional attractions such as Semur-en-Auxois, with its medieval architecture, and the source of the River Seine. The area is also known for its vineyards, though Sombernon itself sits more within an agricultural and wooded plateau than the wine-producing zone proper.
