Santenay

Santenay is a wine-growing village in the Côte-d'Or, at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. Known for its red and white wines, classified as village and premier cru appellations, it draws wine tourists keen to visit local cellars and explore the surrounding vineyards, often on foot or by bike along the Voie des Vignes cycle route linking several villages of the Burgundy wine region. The village retains a modest yet authentic architectural heritage, including a château and a church reflecting its local history. Santenay is also home to a casino, an unusual feature for a village of its size, linked to a thermal spring exploited in the 19th century. The rolling, rural landscape typical of Burgundy's wine country provides a peaceful setting for short stays, combining wine tastings, walks through the vineyards, and visits to neighbouring villages such as Chassagne-Montrachet or Puligny-Montrachet. The proximity of Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saône also allows for cultural and gastronomic day trips in the wider region.
