Marcenay

Marcenay is a small village in the Côte-d'Or department of Burgundy, close to Tonnerre and on the edge of the Chablis wine-growing area. It is best known for its lake, Lac de Marcenay, an 80-hectare stretch of water developed for swimming, fishing and gentle watersports such as pedalos and sailing. Part of the surrounding area is a designated nature reserve, drawing birdwatchers thanks to the presence of migratory and waterfowl species. The village itself retains a typically rural Burgundian character, with stone houses and a local parish church. The wider region is shaped by viticulture, with vineyards producing Crémant de Bourgogne and wines from the Tonnerrois area. Marcenay offers a peaceful stopover for visitors seeking nature and quiet, positioned midway between the tourist sites of Chablis and the hills of the Châtillonnais.
