Gilly les citeaux

Gilly-lès-Cîteaux is a small village in the Côte-d'Or department of Burgundy, located a few kilometres south of Nuits-Saint-Georges and right next to the Abbey of Cîteaux, the historic birthplace of the Cistercian order founded in 1098. This proximity gives the village a peaceful setting amid vineyards and woodland, typical of the Burgundian countryside. The area lies along the Route des Grands Crus, which links the most prestigious wine-growing sites of the Côte de Nuits, making Gilly-lès-Cîteaux a convenient base for exploring nearby vineyards and sampling local wines. The Abbey of Cîteaux, still home to a monastic community, offers guided tours and produces a well-known pressed cheese. The village itself remains quiet and residential, with a preserved rural character. Its location close to Dijon and Beaune makes it easy to explore these historic towns, both rich in heritage.
