St bris le vineux

Saint-Bris-le-Vineux is a wine-growing village in the Yonne department of Burgundy, a few kilometres south of Auxerre. It is one of the few communes in the region producing white wines from the Sauvignon grape under the Saint-Bris appellation, alongside Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines classified as Bourgogne. The village retains an appealing architectural heritage, with limestone winegrowers' houses, cellars carved into the rock, and a Gothic church dedicated to Saint Prix and Saint Cot, whose bell tower rises above the rooftops. Its charming lanes are pleasant to wander, past old wash-houses and façades typical of Burgundy's wine country. The surrounding countryside, with its rolling vineyards, is well suited to walking and to visiting local estates, many of which welcome visitors for tastings. The proximity of Auxerre also provides easy access to a wider range of shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. The semi-continental climate brings warm, dry summers and cool winters, ideal conditions for viticulture. Saint-Bris-le-Vineux therefore makes a quiet base for exploring the Auxerre vineyards and the Yonne valley.
