Vermenton

Vermenton is a village in the Yonne department of Burgundy, situated on the River Cure near its confluence with the Yonne. The village is particularly known for the Canal du Nivernais, which runs alongside it, offering pleasant walks and cycling routes along the towpaths, as well as houseboat rental bases that allow visitors to explore the region at a leisurely pace along the waterways. Vermenton has its own railway station on the Paris–Lyon line, making it a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area. The village lies just a few kilometres from the hilltop town of Vézelay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its Romanesque basilica, and is not far from the Chablis vineyards, celebrated for their white wines. Local architectural heritage includes a parish church and remnants linked to the former Abbey of Reigny nearby. With a mild continental climate, the surrounding countryside is well suited to outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling and exploring rural Burgundian heritage, all set within the tranquil, green landscape of the Cure valley.
