Arcy sur cure

Arcy-sur-Cure is a village in the Yonne department of Burgundy, set in the Cure valley on the edge of the Morvan Regional Nature Park. The village is particularly known for its prehistoric caves, carved by the river into limestone rock, which have revealed traces of human occupation dating back tens of thousands of years and are partly open to visitors. The village is also home to the Château de Chastenay, a listed manor house with partly Renaissance origins. The River Cure, which runs through the area, provides a good setting for outdoor activities such as canoeing, fishing and riverside walks. The surrounding limestone cliffs also attract climbers, as the region is well regarded for this type of activity. The village retains a rural, green character typical of this part of Burgundy, with stone buildings reflecting local limestone architecture. The nearby Morvan hills offer further opportunities for excursions into more wooded, hilly landscapes. Arcy-sur-Cure therefore makes an appealing base for exploring a mix of natural and historical heritage, combining caves, river scenery and traditional Burgundian countryside, within a quiet, largely unspoilt setting.
