Pougues les eaux

Pougues-les-Eaux is a small town in the Nièvre department, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, a few kilometres north of Nevers. The village owes its reputation to its past as a spa town, developed in the 19th century around mineral springs renowned for their digestive properties. The former spa park, with its tree-lined avenues and old bandstand, still reflects this heritage and remains a pleasant spot for walks, enjoyed by locals and passing visitors alike. The town also has a golf course, appreciated for its green, gently rolling setting typical of the Nivernais landscape. The surrounding area, close to the Loire river and the Bec d'Allier, offers scope for walking and cycling amid quiet, rural countryside. The climate is temperate continental, with mild summers and cool winters. Pougues-les-Eaux makes a convenient base for exploring Nevers, with its cathedral and historic quarter, as well as the neighbouring vineyards of Pouilly-sur-Loire, all while enjoying a peaceful, largely untouristy setting.
