Chateau chinon ville

Château-Chinon (Ville) is a small town in the Morvan area of the Nièvre department, in Burgundy, and serves as a sub-prefecture. Perched on a promontory, it offers sweeping views over the wooded, hilly landscape of the nearby Morvan Regional Nature Park. The town is best known for its association with François Mitterrand, who served as its mayor for several decades: the Musée du Septennat, housed in a former townhouse, displays diplomatic gifts received during his presidency, while the Musée du Monde Rural, set within the old château, showcases traditional Morvan rural life. The town retains a quiet, rural character, with a compact historic centre, a local market and everyday shops. The surrounding area, dotted with lakes—including Lake Pannecière—and forests, is well suited to walking, cycling and sampling regional specialities such as Morvan ham and local cheeses. The semi-continental, slightly upland climate brings cool winters and mild summers, ideal for outdoor pursuits.
