Lormes

Lormes is a small town in the Nièvre department, at the heart of the Morvan Regional Natural Park. Set on elevated ground, it offers a pleasant vantage point over the wooded hills and valleys typical of this granite massif in southern Burgundy. The town retains the traditional stone architecture found throughout Morvan villages, along with its parish church. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking and mountain biking, amid forests, meadows and small bodies of water such as the nearby Lac de Chamboux. The larger Lac des Settons, a short drive away, also offers water-based activities. Lormes makes a convenient base for visiting the UNESCO-listed Basilica of Vézelay, as well as other heritage sites across the Morvan and Nièvre regions. The area is known for its local produce, including Morvan ham, regional cheeses and honey. The overall atmosphere is quiet and rural, making it a suitable destination for a restful stay focused on nature and Burgundian heritage.
