Valtournenche

Valtournenche is a municipality in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley, in the Italian Alps, lying at the foot of the Italian side of the Matterhorn (Monte Cervino), one of the most iconic peaks in the Alps. The resort, which shares its name with the valley, stretches along the road leading to Cervinia and serves as a popular gateway to the Matterhorn ski area, which connects to the international Zermatt ski region in Switzerland. In winter, it draws skiers and snowshoeing enthusiasts, while summer turns the area into a haven for hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking, thanks to an extensive network of trails offering open views of the surrounding glaciers. The village retains a traditional alpine character, with stone-and-timber buildings typical of Aosta Valley architecture. Local cuisine highlights mountain produce such as Fontina PDO cheese, cured meats and polenta. The alpine climate brings cold, snowy winters and cool summers, making the destination well suited to outdoor activities throughout the year.
