Courmayeur

Courmayeur is a mountain resort situated at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif in the Aosta Valley, close to the French border. Linked to Chamonix via the Mont Blanc Tunnel, it serves as one of the main Italian gateways to the highest peak in the Alps. The village retains a lively historic centre, with cobbled lanes, boutiques and traditional cafés, particularly along Via Roma. The resort is well known for its extensive ski area, served by the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car, which offers a dramatic ascent to Punta Helbronner at over 3,400 metres, with views over the surrounding glaciers. In summer, Courmayeur draws hikers and mountaineers thanks to its network of trails, including the renowned Tour du Mont Blanc, which passes through the area. Local gastronomy showcases mountain produce such as Fontina PDO cheese, Aosta Valley cured meats and polenta. The neighbouring hamlet of Entrèves, with its traditional architecture, adds further charm to the area. The alpine climate ensures snowy winters ideal for winter sports and mild summers suited to outdoor activities.
