Montesquieu

Montesquieu is a small village in the Tarn-et-Garonne département, near Moissac, in the Occitanie region of south-west France. The surrounding landscape is typical of the Quercy Blanc area, featuring gentle hills, orchards and vineyards devoted to growing chasselas grapes, a local fruit speciality with protected designation of origin status. The nearby Canal latéral à la Garonne and the Garonne river itself provide pleasant walking and cycling routes along the old towpaths. Moissac, just a short drive away, is well known for its Saint-Pierre Abbey and Romanesque cloister, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along the Way of St James pilgrimage route. The region is characterised by traditional rural architecture, bastide towns and villages built from pale local stone. The climate is a mix of continental and oceanic influences, with warm, dry summers well suited to outdoor pursuits. Montauban, the departmental capital, and Toulouse are both within an hour's drive, making it easy to combine a countryside stay with city excursions. Fruit growing and viticulture remain important local economic activities.
