Varen

Varen is a village in the Tarn-et-Garonne department, lying on the border between the Quercy and Rouergue regions, in the Aveyron valley, close to Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val and Najac. The village retains a distinctly medieval character, featuring the Église Saint-Pierre, a former Romanesque priory church, along with narrow lanes and old stone houses typical of the area. The surrounding countryside is rural and hilly, ideal for walking or cycling along the Aveyron river and exploring the nearby gorges, admired for their limestone scenery and Mediterranean-style vegetation. The local economy is largely agricultural, with walnut groves and orchards characteristic of the Quercy region. History and heritage enthusiasts can easily reach some of France's most beautiful listed villages nearby, such as Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val or Najac, known for their medieval architecture and traditional markets.
