Compeyre

Compeyre is a small village in the southern Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region, just a few kilometres from Millau, in the Tarn valley. Perched on a rocky outcrop, it retains a medieval character, with stone houses typical of the Rouergue area and the remains of its old castle. The surrounding landscape is shaped by the Causses limestone plateaux and the nearby Gorges du Tarn, making it a good base for walking and exploring the region's distinctive rocky scenery. Millau, well known for its viaduct, is close by and offers a wider range of shops, services and tourist activities. The climate has a Mediterranean influence tempered by altitude, with warm, dry summers and mild winters, suiting outdoor stays for much of the year. Compeyre is well suited to a quiet break close to nature, while remaining within easy reach of the roads linking Millau to the rest of the Aveyron and the Occitanie region. The area is popular with those keen on walking, cycling and discovering rural Aveyron heritage.
