Monteils

Monteils is a small commune in the Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region of southern France, located just a few kilometres from Villefranche-de-Rouergue, the neighbouring market town. The village sits within the typical Rouergue landscape of wooded hills, farmed valleys and small streams feeding into the Aveyron river. The commune is home to a Dominican monastery, a notable feature of the local heritage. The rural surroundings are well suited to outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling and exploring the traditional limestone architecture characteristic of the area. Nearby Villefranche-de-Rouergue offers shops, a well-known weekly market and well-preserved mediaeval heritage, including its collegiate church and arcaded central square. The climate is a mild oceanic type with continental influences, bringing warm summers and cooler winters typical of the southern Massif Central.
