Montbazens

Montbazens is a small village in the northern Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region, formerly the main town of its canton within the Rouergue area. Located between Rodez and Villefranche-de-Rouergue, it lies within a rural landscape of rolling hills, limestone plateaus and woodland typical of this part of Aveyron. The local economy remains tied to agriculture, particularly livestock farming, a long-standing tradition in the region. The village retains an authentic character, with a handful of local shops, a church and a central square that comes alive on market days. The nearby Decazeville-Aubin area, a short drive south, provides access to larger amenities while preserving the tranquillity of the Aveyron countryside. The surrounding area is well suited to walking and cycling, with paths connecting several villages across the plateau. The climate, an oceanic type with continental influences, brings mild summers and cool winters. The region is also known for its hearty cuisine, including aligot, tripoux and Roquefort cheese produced not far away.
