Lacroix barrez

Lacroix-Barrez is a small village in the north-east of the Aveyron department, within the Carladez area, close to Mur-de-Barrez and the border with the Cantal department. This rural area, characterised by rolling, pastoral landscapes, lies near the Truyère gorges and the Sarrans and Couesque reservoir lakes, both popular for water sports and fishing. The nearby Château de Valon reflects the area's local heritage. The region offers a peaceful setting, well suited to walking, with numerous waymarked trails crossing hills and valleys, while the Aubrac plateau is within easy reach. The climate is semi-mountainous, with mild summers and cooler winters typical of this part of Aveyron. Local specialities such as aligot, Laguiole cheese and farmhouse charcuterie reflect the culinary traditions of the Rouergue region. Lacroix-Barrez therefore makes a quiet base for exploring an unspoilt part of the countryside, combining nature, understated built heritage and rural authenticity, away from the busier tourist routes found elsewhere in the region.
