Bozouls

Bozouls is a village in the Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region of southern France, best known for its striking natural canyon, locally called the 'Trou de Bozouls'. Carved by the Dourdou river, this geological formation stretches nearly 400 metres across and drops around 100 metres deep, forming the village's main landmark. Spectacular views over the gorge can be enjoyed from a viewpoint near the Romanesque Sainte-Fauste church, perched right on the edge of the cliff. The old village itself, with its stone houses and narrow streets typical of the Rouergue area, is well worth a quiet stroll. Bozouls sits on the Causse Comtal plateau, surrounded by rural Aveyron countryside, making it a good base for walking and exploring the natural landscape. The area is also known for regional specialities such as aligot, Roquefort cheese and local charcuterie, available at nearby markets and shops. Thanks to its location, Bozouls makes a convenient stop for visiting other sites in the department, including the Aveyron gorges and several villages recognised among the most beautiful in France. The climate is temperate with a mild upland influence, allowing pleasant stays for much of the year.
