Veyreau

Veyreau is a small village in the Aveyron department, perched on the Causse Noir plateau at the heart of the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park, not far from Millau. The village is notably known for the Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux, an impressive dolomite rock formation shaped by erosion, now developed into a walking trail. The nearby Dourbie gorges provide an unspoilt natural setting well suited to outdoor pursuits such as hiking, rock climbing and canoeing. The typical Grands Causses landscape, characterised by limestone plateaux, dry grasslands and steep-sided valleys, defines the wider surrounding area. Traditional dry-stone buildings and causse farmhouses reflect a rural heritage still visible in the village and its surroundings. The region enjoys a contrasting climate, with hot, dry summers and harsher winters at higher altitudes. Veyreau serves as a popular starting point for exploring the karst landscapes of the Grands Causses, as well as neighbouring villages such as La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite and Millau, well known for its viaduct.
