Peyrusse le roc

Peyrusse-le-Roc is a village in the north of the Aveyron department (12220), perched above the Diège gorges. It is chiefly known for its medieval ruins, the remains of a once-fortified town that also served as a mining centre during the Middle Ages. Visitors can still see the remnants of a castle, a tower, and a stone staircase carved into the rock leading to the so-called 'English fountain', a notable feature of the site. The present-day village, set higher up, retains traditional stone houses typical of the Rouergue region and offers a quiet, unspoilt atmosphere away from major tourist routes.
