Rieupeyroux

Rieupeyroux is a town in the Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region of southern France, set within the Ségala area, a hilly landscape in north-western Aveyron known for its hedgerowed farmland and livestock farming. The town retains traces of its connection to the medieval military orders, having once housed a Templar and later a Hospitaller commandery, with some architectural remnants still visible in the old centre. The parish church and the narrow streets of the village reflect this medieval heritage. A nearby leisure lake provides opportunities for swimming, fishing and walking, particularly popular during the summer months. The surrounding countryside is well suited to hiking, with a network of marked trails crossing rolling hills, woodland and pasture typical of the Ségala region. Agriculture remains a defining feature of local life, especially cattle farming and pork production, rooted in long-standing rural traditions.
