Prades salars

Prades-Salars is a small village in southern Aveyron, in the Occitanie region, set on the Causse Comtal plateau close to Lake Pareloup, one of the largest man-made lakes in France. This location makes it a popular base for water-based activities such as sailing, swimming, canoeing and fishing, with the lake offering an unspoilt natural setting surrounded by pine forests and indented shorelines. The village retains a typically rural character of the Causse, with limestone houses and lauze stone roofs characteristic of traditional Aveyron architecture. The local economy remains rooted in sheep farming, a long-standing activity on this plateau that supplies milk for Roquefort cheese, produced in the nearby caves of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon. The climate, semi-continental in nature due to the plateau's altitude, brings warm, dry summers that draw visitors to the lake, alongside harsher winters. Its proximity to Rodez, the departmental capital, provides easy access to shops and services while maintaining a peaceful, green environment well suited to nature-based stays and outdoor pursuits in the Aveyron countryside.
