Muret le chateau

Muret-le-Château is a small village in the Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region of southern France, located a few kilometres north of Rodez, the departmental capital. The village takes its name from the château that overlooks the settlement, a reminder of the medieval history of the Rouergue area, a region known for its rich Romanesque heritage and numerous fortified buildings scattered across the surrounding countryside. The typical Aveyron landscape, featuring green valleys, limestone plateaus and rivers such as the Aveyron or the Dourdou, provides an ideal setting for outdoor pursuits including walking and cycling, as well as exploring rural heritage. The nearby city of Rodez offers easy access to Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Soulages Museum, two of its main attractions. Local gastronomy reflects Aveyron traditions, with specialities such as aligot, tripoux and regional cheeses.
