Campuac

Campuac is a small rural village in the Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region, located in the Rouergue area a few kilometres from Conques and Espalion. The village lies on the route of the Way of St James (GR65, Via Podiensis), making it a popular stopover for pilgrims walking between Espeyrac and Conques. The surrounding landscape, typical of the Aveyron causses and valleys, combines plateaus, woodland and pastureland, offering a peaceful setting well suited to walking and exploring local rural heritage. The area retains a strong tradition of farming, particularly livestock rearing, and the local cuisine reflects Rouergue specialities such as aligot, farçous, tripoux, and cheeses including Roquefort and Fourme d'Aubrac, commonly served in nearby inns. The climate is semi-continental, with warm summers and cooler winters, influenced by the moderate altitude of the region. Campuac makes a quiet base for visiting the abbey church of Conques, a UNESCO World Heritage site recognised as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela, as well as the picturesque villages of Espalion and Estaing along the Lot valley.
