Riviere sur tarn

Rivière-sur-Tarn is a village in the Aveyron department, set within the Grands Causses region, at the heart of the Tarn Gorges near Millau. The village stretches along the River Tarn, surrounded by limestone cliffs typical of the Causses and Gorges landscape. It is home to the ruins of the Château de Peyrelade, perched on a rocky spur, bearing witness to the area's medieval history. Nearby, the Cirque de Saint-Marcellin is known for its striking karst scenery. The river provides a natural setting for water-based activities such as canoeing and kayaking, along with swimming during the summer months, while the surrounding cliffs are popular with climbers. The village also serves as a convenient base for exploring the Tarn Gorges and the Causse Noir plateau, as well as for visiting the nearby Millau Viaduct, a notable modern engineering landmark visible from several vantage points. The climate is broadly Mediterranean, tempered by the altitude of the Causses, bringing warm, dry summers and cooler winters.
