Castelnau pegayrols

Castelnau-Pégayrols is a hilltop village in the Aveyron department, in the southern Massif Central, on the edge of the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park. Built into the hillside, it features traditional local stone architecture, with houses arranged in tiers, narrow sloping lanes, and the remains of an old castle overlooking the village. This well-preserved medieval setting makes it a pleasant spot for exploring on foot, away from the main tourist routes. The village lies close to the Causse Noir plateau and the Gorges de la Muse, providing direct access to the typical limestone landscapes of the Grands Causses, ideal for walking, climbing, and observing local wildlife, including reintroduced vultures. The town of Millau, known for its famous viaduct, is around twenty kilometres away, making day trips easy. The climate, with hot dry summers and cooler winters at altitude, is typical of the Aveyron causses. The region is also known for its local produce, particularly cheeses such as Roquefort, matured in natural caves nearby.
