Salles curan

Salles-Curan is a hilltop village in the Aveyron department, in the Lévézou area, overlooking the shores of Lake Pareloup, one of the largest man-made lakes in southern France. The village retains medieval heritage, including a fortified château that once served as a residence for the bishops of Rodez and has since been repurposed, along with a Gothic church and old market halls reflecting its history as a fortified town. Lake Pareloup, close by, offers a range of water-based activities such as swimming at designated beaches, sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and fishing. The lake and its wooded shoreline provide a pleasant natural setting for relaxation and walking. Perched on the Lévézou plateau at around 800 metres above sea level, the village enjoys a cooler climate than much of the surrounding region, with mild summers. The area is known for sheep farming linked to Roquefort cheese production, giving the landscape a rolling, pastoral character. Salles-Curan makes a convenient base for exploring the Aveyron, combining rural heritage, nature and lakeside outdoor pursuits.
