Arvieu

Arvieu is a village on the Lévézou plateau in the Aveyron département, southern France, close to Lake Pareloup, one of the largest artificial lakes in the region. The village retains a distinctly rural character, with stone-built houses and a church typical of the architecture found across the Grands Causses and Lévézou areas. Sitting at an altitude of around 700 metres, the plateau enjoys a cool, breezy climate, making it well suited to walking and outdoor pursuits. Lake Pareloup, just a few kilometres away, offers sailing, canoeing, swimming and fishing during the summer months. The surrounding countryside also features walking and mountain-biking trails through meadows, woodland and pastures, where cattle farming remains important, particularly for milk production linked to regional cheeses such as Roquefort and Laguiole. Local cuisine draws on traditional Aveyron and Auvergne specialities, including aligot and farmhouse charcuterie. Arvieu therefore provides a peaceful base from which to explore the Lévézou plateau, combining unspoilt nature, water-based activities and genuine rural heritage.
