Montevarchi

Montevarchi is a town in Tuscany, located in the Valdarno area roughly midway between Florence and Arezzo, amid rolling hills planted with vines and olive groves. The historic centre is built around Piazza Varchi and the Collegiata di San Lorenzo, a religious building that stands as one of the town's landmarks. Montevarchi is also home to a palaeontological museum, reflecting fossil finds made in the valley over the years. The town has long been linked to shoe and leather manufacturing, a craft tradition that shaped its local economy for decades. Its position on the Florence–Rome railway line makes it a convenient base for exploring major Tuscan cities such as Florence, Siena and Arezzo, as well as the nearby villages of the Chianti region. The surrounding countryside offers a typically Tuscan landscape, well suited to walks and to sampling local produce such as olive oil and wine. With a Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and mild winters, the area is suitable for visits across much of the year.
