Aulla

Aulla is a small town in Tuscany, located in the Lunigiana area, province of Massa-Carrara, at the confluence of the Magra and Aulella rivers. This strategic position, reflected in the town's very name, has long made it a historic crossing point between Liguria and Emilia. The Fortezza della Brunella, an imposing 16th-century fortress perched on a hilltop, overlooks the town and bears witness to the region's military past. Aulla also lies along the Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrim route linking Northern Europe to Rome, drawing walkers and heritage enthusiasts alike. The nearby Apuan Alps offer opportunities for mountain hiking, while the Ligurian coast and the renowned Cinque Terre are within an hour's drive.
