Codiponte

Codiponte is a small hamlet within the municipality of Casola in Lunigiana, in the province of Massa-Carrara, Tuscany. Set in the Aulella valley at the heart of the Lunigiana region, it is notable for its Romanesque pieve dedicated to Saints Cornelius and Cyprian, one of the oldest religious buildings in the area, dating back to the early Middle Ages. The hamlet retains a rural character, with stone houses typical of Lunigiana, a region bridging Tuscany, Liguria and Emilia-Romagna. The surrounding mountainous landscape, close to the Apuan Alps, offers opportunities for hiking and exploring wooded valleys and watercourses such as the Aulella river, which runs through the area. Local cuisine reflects Lunigiana's traditions, featuring specialities such as chestnut bread, testaroli pasta and torta d'erbi, a savoury herb tart. The climate is mountainous with Mediterranean influences, bringing mild summers and cooler winters.
