Pietrasanta

Pietrasanta is a Tuscan town in the province of Lucca, within the Versilia area, just a short distance from the beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea and at the foot of the Apuan Alps, renowned for their marble quarries. Nicknamed the 'little Athens' for its artistic heritage, the town has long attracted sculptors and international artists, largely due to its proximity to the famous Carrara marble quarries. The historic centre, with its cobbled lanes, marble and bronze workshops, and main square overlooked by the Cathedral of San Martino and its unfinished bell tower, is easily explored on foot. The Rocca Arrighina fortress and the medieval walls reflect the town's historical past. Pietrasanta serves as a convenient base for exploring the Versilia coast, including seaside resorts such as Forte dei Marmi and Marina di Pietrasanta, as well as excursions into the surrounding mountains.
