Torre del Lago Puccini

Torre del Lago Puccini is a hamlet within the municipality of Viareggio, in Tuscany, set between Lake Massaciuccoli and the Tyrrhenian coast. The village owes its fame to composer Giacomo Puccini, who lived here for several decades and wrote a number of his major works on these shores. His former home, now the Villa Museo Puccini, houses the mausoleum where the composer and his family are buried, and is open to visitors throughout the year. Each summer, an opera festival dedicated to Puccini takes place at an open-air theatre built on the lakeside, drawing opera enthusiasts from across Europe. Lake Massaciuccoli, fringed by reed beds and part of the Migliarino-San Rossore-Massaciuccoli Nature Park, is well suited to boat trips and birdwatching. The nearby town of Viareggio offers quick access to the well-organised beach clubs of the Versilia coast. Inland, the surrounding countryside is typically Tuscan, with rolling hills, coastal pine woods and small farms. Torre del Lago thus combines musical heritage, lakeside nature and a lively seaside atmosphere, all within easy reach of Lucca and Pisa.
