Porto Torres

Porto Torres is a coastal town in north-western Sardinia, within the province of Sassari, situated on the Gulf of Asinara. As a significant port, it provides ferry connections to mainland Italy and France, making it a common arrival point for travellers heading into Sardinia. The town holds notable ancient remains from Turris Libisonis, a Roman settlement whose surviving features include public baths, a still-used Roman bridge, and the Antiquarium Turritano museum displaying local archaeological finds. The Romanesque Basilica of San Gavino, one of the largest Romanesque churches in Sardinia, stands at the heart of the historic centre. Along the coast, beaches such as Balai offer calm swimming spots.
