Cinisi

Cinisi is a town on the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Palermo, Sicily, best known for hosting Falcone-Borsellino International Airport, located within its territory at Punta Raisi. The town is also closely linked to the memory of Peppino Impastato, an anti-mafia activist murdered in 1978, whose story inspired the film 'I cento passi'; local associations and initiatives continue to keep his memory alive. The historic centre retains a typically Sicilian layout, with a handful of religious buildings and a castle, while the surrounding countryside is given over to citrus groves and olive cultivation. The hamlet of Magaggiari provides access to the sea via a sandy beach popular during the summer months. Cinisi lies close to Terrasini, known for its museum and clear waters, as well as to Capaci. Its position between the coast and limestone hills makes it a convenient base for combining a seaside stay with hiking and day trips to Palermo, around thirty kilometres away. The Mediterranean climate brings hot, dry summers and mild winters, making the area worth visiting throughout the year.
