Ovada

Ovada is a small town in Piedmont, in the province of Alessandria, located in the Alto Monferrato area near the border with Liguria. Crossed by the Orba stream, it occupies a strategic position between the vine-covered hills of Monferrato and the Genoese hinterland, making it a convenient gateway to the Ligurian coast. The town is best known for its wine production, particularly Dolcetto d'Ovada DOCG, a red wine typical of the region. The historic centre retains some architectural interest, including the Baroque-style Parish Church of the Assumption. The surrounding countryside offers rolling landscapes ideal for walks through vineyards and nearby villages. The climate is continental, tempered by the sea's proximity, with warm summers and relatively mild winters. Ovada makes a practical base for exploring both Piedmont's wine country and the Ligurian coastline, about an hour's drive away.
