La Morra

La Morra is a hilltop town in Piedmont, in the province of Cuneo, at the heart of the Langhe region. Perched on a ridge, it offers sweeping views over the surrounding vineyards, particularly from the belvedere near the church of San Martino. The town lies within the Barolo wine-producing area, home to one of Italy's most celebrated red wines, made from the Nebbiolo grape. The vineyard landscape of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, which includes La Morra, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. The historic centre retains a medieval civic tower and a communal wine cellar housed in a former church, where local wines can be tasted. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking and cycling, with paths winding through hills and vineyard plots. Local cuisine reflects classic Piedmontese fare, including tajarin pasta, agnolotti and brasato al Barolo. La Morra makes a convenient base for exploring nearby wine villages such as Barolo and Monforte d'Alba, as well as Alba itself, also renowned for its white truffles.
