Acqui Terme

Acqui Terme is a spa town in Piedmont, located in the province of Alessandria on the banks of the River Bormida. Renowned since Roman times for its hot sulphurous waters, it retains traces of this heritage, including a Roman aqueduct still visible near the historic centre. The Bollente, a public fountain from which thermal water flows at around 75 degrees Celsius, remains an iconic landmark in the town centre. Several spa establishments offer treatments and wellness cures, making the town a popular destination for relaxation. The compact historic centre is easily explored on foot, with pedestrianised lanes, lively squares such as Piazza della Bollente, and the cathedral along with a handful of historic palaces. Acqui Terme also lies at the heart of a well-regarded wine region, close to the Barbera and Dolcetto production areas, making it a convenient base for exploring the Monferrato hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Local cuisine showcases typical Piedmontese dishes such as tajarin pasta, vitello tonnato and regional cheeses. The climate is continental, with warm summers and cool winters, suitable for visits throughout the year.
