Montieri

Montieri is a small medieval village perched in the Colline Metallifere (Metalliferous Hills), within the province of Grosseto in southern Tuscany. Its history is closely tied to mining activity, particularly the extraction of silver and copper, dating back to medieval times and shaping the local economy and urban layout for centuries. The village retains a traditional layout with cobbled lanes, stone houses and a few remnants of its industrial past, now highlighted by themed walking trails in the surrounding countryside. The municipality spans a wooded landscape dominated by chestnut groves and mixed forests, ideal for walking, seasonal mushroom foraging and exploring the Tuscan countryside away from the main tourist routes. The climate is mild, with relatively cool summers thanks to the altitude and crisp winters.
