Sillano

Sillano is a mountain village located in the Garfagnana area, in the northern part of the province of Lucca, Tuscany, within the Serchio Valley. Since 2014, the settlement has formed part of the merged municipality of Sillano Giuncugnano. Surrounded by the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and close to the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park, the area is characterised by a rural, mountainous landscape featuring wooded valleys, rivers and hiking trails popular with nature enthusiasts. The climate is typically alpine, with cool, snowy winters and mild summers, making it well suited to hiking, trekking and exploring the Tuscan countryside away from the more heavily touristed areas. The wider Garfagnana region is also known for its local produce, including chestnut-based dishes, mountain cheeses and traditional cured meats. Sillano serves as a convenient base for exploring the surrounding villages of the Serchio Valley and for enjoying an unspoilt natural setting, well away from the bustle of Tuscany's larger towns and cities.
