Orentano

Orentano is a small hamlet within the municipality of Castelfranco di Sotto, in the province of Pisa, Tuscany. Set in the lower Valdarno plain, close to the former Lake Bientina (the Padule di Bientina), now a large drained wetland turned nature reserve popular for birdwatching and walking or cycling routes, the village retains the rural character typical of the Tuscan countryside, surrounded by cultivated fields, vineyards and olive groves. Its central location makes it an easy base for exploring several major historic cities: Pisa, with its famous Leaning Tower, Lucca, with its well-preserved city walls, and Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, are all within an hour's drive. The area enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, making spring and autumn particularly pleasant times to visit. The surrounding countryside also offers opportunities to sample local Tuscan produce, including olive oil and wine from nearby farms.
