Valle di Tartano

Valle di Tartano is a small alpine valley in the province of Sondrio, in the Valtellina region, at the heart of the Orobie Valtellinesi Park. The village of Tartano, which gives the valley its name, is spread across several hamlets scattered among pastures, chestnut woods and the typical mountain meadows of this part of Lombardy. The area is known for its albergo diffuso accommodation model, which makes use of traditional stone and timber buildings. The setting is well suited to summer hiking, with trails linking the alpine pastures and offering views of the surrounding peaks, as well as winter activities such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Local cuisine draws on Valtellina produce, including Bitto cheese, polenta taragna and mountain cured meats. The climate is typically alpine, with mild summers and cold, snowy winters. Set away from the main tourist routes, Valle di Tartano retains a rural, unspoilt character, valued for the peacefulness and authenticity of its natural surroundings, around an hour's drive from Sondrio and Morbegno.
