Madesimo

Madesimo is a mountain resort located in the Val Chiavenna, in Lombardy, close to the Swiss border, within the province of Sondrio. Set at around 1,550 metres above sea level, it is a popular destination in both winter and summer. The resort's ski area connects with that of Motta, offering slopes suited to various levels alongside cross-country skiing facilities. In summer, Madesimo serves as a starting point for hiking, with mountain trails leading to surrounding alpine pastures and lakes. The Cardinello gorge and the Acquafraggia waterfalls, both nearby, are among the region's notable natural features. The village retains typical mountain architecture, with stone and timber buildings characteristic of the Lombard Alps. Local cuisine highlights Valchiavenna specialities, including bresaola, pizzoccheri and mountain cheeses. Surrounded by alpine peaks, the setting draws visitors keen on nature and outdoor pursuits throughout the year.
