Varazze

Varazze is a coastal town in Liguria, in the province of Savona, on the Riviera delle Palme. It is known for its long stretch of sandy beach, somewhat unusual along this often rocky part of the Ligurian coast. The palm-lined seafront and pedestrian promenade make for a pleasant stroll, as does the cycle path built along a former railway line, which connects Varazze to neighbouring towns such as Celle Ligure and Cogoleto. The town has a long-standing maritime tradition, reflected in its historic shipyards and modern marina, popular with sailing and boating enthusiasts. The old town retains some historic architectural features, including the Torre Doria tower and the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio. Local cuisine follows classic Ligurian traditions, with focaccia, farinata and fresh seafood dishes among the specialities. The mild Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and gentle winters, supports outdoor activities for much of the year. Varazze makes a convenient base for exploring the wider Riviera di Ponente, combining sea, hills and nearby villages.
