Montalto Ligure

Montalto Ligure is a small village in the Ligurian hinterland, set in the Argentina Valley within the province of Imperia. Since 2013 part of the merged municipality of Montalto Carpasio, it retains the character of a typical inland Ligurian settlement, with stone houses clustered around an old centre and narrow, sloping lanes. The surrounding landscape is dominated by terraced olive groves, a traditional feature of this part of Liguria where olive oil remains an important local product. The village lies close to other well-known settlements in the valley, such as Badalucco and Triora, the latter noted for its historical connection to witchcraft trials. The area is well suited to walking, with paths linking the hilltop villages along the Argentina river, and enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate tempered by its moderate elevation. Around twenty kilometres from the coast and the town of Sanremo, Montalto Ligure offers a quiet base away from the busier seaside resorts, ideal for exploring the Ligurian hinterland, its olive-covered hillsides and its authentic rural heritage.
