Castiglione Chiavarese

Castiglione Chiavarese is a small municipality in the Ligurian hinterland, in the province of Genoa, just a few kilometres from the beaches of the Riviera di Levante and towns such as Sestri Levante and Moneglia. The hilly, wooded terrain is characterised by chestnut trees, typical of this mid-mountain area, and by scattered settlements including the hamlets of Velva and Missano, which retain an authentic rural character. The climate, Mediterranean but softened by altitude, brings milder summers than on the coast and lush green landscapes for much of the year. The area is popular for walking, with trails connecting the inland valleys to ridges offering views over the sea, as well as for local produce, particularly chestnuts, a staple of the Genoese hinterland's cuisine. The village retains a simple urban fabric, with narrow lanes and stone houses typical of Ligurian hill towns. It makes a suitable base for a quiet stay in close contact with nature, while still offering quick access to the coast for those keen on beaches and water sports.
